Position Description:

The director of finance oversees the operations of the financial department that works with the students to obtain a variety of funding sources for them to be able to provide the funds for their education. They are the direct supervisor and manager to the financial representatives. By managing the relationship between financial assistance and the administration, operations, and other department heads, they facilitate the payment of the student body and provide coaching, guidance, and training to the financial coordinators.

Required Skills

The director of finance candidates should have skills that are strong in: leadership, training, managing, multitasking, coaching, phone skills, ability to work with facts, figures and basic loans, and attributes comparable to the financial assistance representatives.

Competencies

They have to be dependable, honest, self-motivated, able to work in a professional office environment, actively participate in the day-to-day operation of the school, be able to attend graduations as well as staff and faculty meetings as assigned, able to work with the administration in the development of processes and procedures, stay abreast of changes in their industry through media and trade publications and organizations, and able to work independently as well as in a team environment with other staff and team members supporting the organizations’ efforts. Candidates are responsible for the monitoring of the daily operations of the finance department ensuring that local, state and federal laws are being met without deviation. They are responsible for managing all financial assistance related enrollment efforts, provide input for hiring and disciplinary actions, help set financial department schedules and goals, attend weekly organizational meetings, prepare and conduct employee reviews and metrics in a timely fashion, conduct weekly financial assistance meetings providing coaching and mentoring to assist team in its efforts, schedule and participate in involvement with orientations, graduations, industry events and special events, and research and submit competitive marketing analysis and summaries. The director of finance is the leader of the financial assistance group providing guidance, support, personal financial assistance activity, attends local and national industry functions bringing the wealth of information to the team to strengthen the group as a whole, and manages the day-to-day operations of the financial department efforts. They must help determine and actualize the overall operational goals and help develop new processes to continuously grow the department and raise production and actualization levels.

Required Knowledge

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in finance/management experience, excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills, general knowledge of computer skills specifically towards Microsoft Office programs, knowledge of federal student loan programs, knowledge of simple student loan programs, ability to work flexible and adaptable work schedules, ability to use good judgment as well as decision making skills, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality in representing the organization and its efforts.
