Course Description:
This course is a mathematics review with an introduction to calculations encountered in pharmacy practice. Including: basic math review, converting between measurement systems, interpreting prescriptions, physician orders, drug labels, dosage calculation methods, various dosage calculations, calculations in special care areas.
This course is an introduction to admixture and aseptic techniques and sterile product preparation. The devices and manipulation techniques necessary to maintain sterility and mechanics of a pharmacy are discussed and practiced in laboratory exercises. Students learn the basic indications
and mechanism of actions of specific drugs, as well as calculations for selected drug concentrations. Proper technique for mixing and labeling drips are introduced with a combination of laboratory sessions provide the opportunity for students to practice techniques.
