Career Description:
As a Medical Assistant you will be able to perform tasks such as checking blood pressure and pulse rate, running tests such as EKG’s, and even drawing blood. In addition, you will gain the knowledge that is necessary to work in the front medical office, back medical office, or in a hands on clinical environment. But don’t think that this is one of those classes that you can just sit back and let someone else do all the work. Part of your class time is spent in a medical lab learning clinical and laboratory procedures. As a graduate of this program you will be eligible to acquire an entry-level position as a Medical Assistant in a physician’s office, walk-in clinic, hospital or laboratory. The purpose of this program is train aspiring students in the areas necessary to become a Medical Assistant including: Medical Terminology, Medical Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Coding and Billing, Medical Manager software; Clinical Procedures including venipuncture, vital signs, assisting with minor surgery, specialty lab tests, hematology, and injections. The Medical Assistant Program also trains the students in CPR and First Aid and Medical Law and Ethics. This is accomplished through an effective balance of theory and hands on practical training involving lecture, current texts, clinical labs and personal attention. At the end of this course students are prepared to enter the workforce as an entry-level Medical Assistant.
